Dig-A-Dino
my holiday's ending... and i'm starting school on monday.
obviously not as confident as i was few months ago... the holiday has slowed the brain down and i think my IQ has dropped a good ten points since...
holiday was well spent with children age 12 and below...
probably the mentality that suits me to some of you...
but it's pretty disturbing when:-
i) i find myself enjoying a good bowl of coco rocks for breakfast while watching two episodes of Phineas and Ferb back to back
ii) i can distinguish the differences between bakugans, gormitis and gogos...
iii) i said yesss to aliens in the attic one saturday and actuallly found it quite errrr entertaining....
iv) i actually laughed out loud in the cinema... much louder than the 6 kids i went to watch the movie with...
I'm in such a sorry state that i'm convinced the ppl in BPP (my new college) would find it hard to believe that i'm actually a first class honours student...
life choices are different now...
I did choose to spend time excavating a mini replica of a t-rex skeleton from a plaster block for young padraig phillips instead of revising for an online test due 2nd week of september...
it's reallllly funnnn.... so fun that i was a tad bit disappointed when melina aka padraig's mum called me yesterday telling me that i should be happy to hear that my 'job' of excavating the dinosaur was completed by eoghan aka her 11 year old son...
it was never a job..... it did give me hours of fun imagining that i was a palaeontologist to be honest...
I was actually looking forward to assembling the pieces i dug out from the plaster block in October when i return to Newcastle....
sigh....
anyho... life as an ADULT student starts again...
and to some who needs updating... i'm currently in Leeds... for at least 9 months...

the short hiatus
do excuse my lack of updates...

a lot has happened in the past one month since i last updated...
like obtaining a first in my law degree and then being the recipient of an award that 2 months ago i could only drool upon!

*truthfully...
and then I turned 24...
the usual birthday glow was substituted with complete haggardness and maggoty pale skin
the in-denial self is blaming it on theresa though...
mental note to oneself: should not take pictures next to theresa chin so as to look more outstanding in future...
but
thank you theresa for celebrating me bday wif moi...
am now just a year shy from hitting the quarter life crisis...
and lastly...
am somewhat honoured to be featured in the local newspapers back home...
pic courtesy of sammy poh!pretty shocking that i was also featured in Sin Chew Jit Poh (?!?!)
yes, i do not know the proper spelling of the newspaper because i'm a banana who could only read 3 characters out of the entire article (my name included)
not so honoured is how my picture's colour resolution came out totally off from its original copy.i suppose that sin chew jit poh prolly thought it was more marketable that an ah lian was featured by giving me a super LALA hair colour to go with the already chinky face!
and i promise 2 update as much as often now...
*puts on innocent grin*

quick updates from a pyrophobic
i) so i've been cooking my own meals (well two of them).... one turned out really impressive and the other was a disaster.... bt i've kinda upgraded myself... i'm not as pyrophobic as i was before.
(welll we actually took a group pic... bt i lookd damn cina in it and we had about 30 of us, more than half of which i didnt talked too... so 4gt it)
and we all lookd lk immigrants from different country, because the english people had occupied the bench behind us and were prolly enjoying a sea of international asses that were presented in front of them.
back in malaysia... i'm huge... ok wait... i'm average... bt i was never tiny...
my shoulders are officially armrests for the hsmates when they are tired... one standing at 193cm and the other at 175cm.
v) i'm finally accepting newcastle. it's strange and hard at times, bt i'm alright. i'll survive.
and they are never cold?!?!?! i'm in my coat and shivering and a girl cud jus walked past me in a tube and micro mini skirt as if she was in the tropics or sumthing...
i really do tink dey haf build in heaters in their body...
and i miss speaking manglish, bcuz i cant here. i have to try to articulate every word i'm saying just so they can understand me...
and of course, i miss my frens and family back home...
i misss my four legged bitch the most.... ;(
and to illustrate my point...
the other day i was on my toilet bowl... and just as i was about to get started, my hsmate had to enter his bathroom which was jus next to mine... and started his shower. i sat there in bewilderment for a minute... if i could hear him, he prolly cud hear me too. and then he started whistling... and i knew that instance that poop operation had to stop.

and the darkness comes again when i try to recapture the moment... - I Capture The Castle
attention all bibliophiles (eva) and bookworms (irene)...
... a show of hand if you love reading in bed!!!!
i mean why wudnt you...the soft mattress pressing against your back, the pillow supporting your head, your legs resting under your warm comforter and your hands holding onto the book that brings you to places despite resting in bed immobile.
only setback is, the bad lighting.
my love for midnight fantasies is the main contributor to my increasing astigmatism.
and because of that, reading classic books is now a problem because of their famous puny fonts that the nightlight at the side of my bed is losing its efficiency.
last week, i found my saviour...

a clip reading light.
so with this mini reading light...and for times when i wan to let my overactive imagination run amok, i can hide under my blanket and not worry about the darkness...
:)
clip reading light can be found in You've Got Gift, Green Heights Mall 1st Floor.

waking up before the sun
i woke up before the sun did today,
dreams had to be sacrificed and placed aside,
i put on my best dress and glitters on my eyes,
and welcome the new day...
with cold sand on my feet, morning dew on the tip of my nose,
and a smile plastered on my face longer than usual.
flick, flick, flick,
was all i could hear,
the sound of the waves were minimal,
flick, flick, flick,
the cameras went...
capturing the angles, the poses and every serene moment.so this is how a photoshoot is conducted,
pictures for the memories of eight individuals,
pictures for the portfolio of two photographers...
so this is how a photoshoot feels like,
a bittersweet experience,
mixed with all the excitement wrapped up with fatigue.
who ever said modelling was easy,
i'm tired from all the jumping, the running, the posing and giving the extra smiles,
but as i sit here... weak with sand all over my face, body and in my mouth,
i'm left to wait anxiously for the outcome of the shoot,
and soon the gradual realization of how fun everything was, sunk in...
and like a hungry stomach, it left me waiting more.
but... i'll be waking up in another city tomorrow,
a purple top and skinny jeans packed for the interview,
with no glitters in my eyes, no sand on my feet,
just the same smile plastered on my face.
no more soothing sounds of the cameras flicking,
but just stern voices questioning my validity and existence.

the end that lead to the beginning
allow me to state the obvious, the me today is not the me three years ago.
just by possessing a slight sense of maturity changes everything. i'm not the same person i used to be even though that sense of maturity hasnt been uploaded into my body system a full 100%.
everday decisions are made so differently that i'm clueless about the person i'm turning into half of the time.
i wasnt always a geek to begin with. i started my tertiary education at a totally wrong path. and as deeper as i went, i found it hard especially when the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. funny thing was when it came to trying out new things other than education, i had the intestinal fortitude to carry out any stunt. i mean every one of us probably went thru the same phase where we believed we were close to being immortal. but when it came to studies, i was a hermit who only felt comfortable under my shell.
and when i decided to switch from engineering to law, i was at the lowest point in my life, the natural confidence i used to possess wasnt anywhere to be found and soon the accumulation of doubts were slowly taking over. and at some point, though i've never admitted to anyone, i was humiliated by my own failure. who wouldnt be. you tried, you gave everything you could for two and a half years but your everything wasn't enough. i was giving up second year electrical engineering for a-levels law. that is something you can never be proud about. for the first time in my life, i was lost. i had no idea what to expect and if this Plan B failed, was i able to face another failure?
fast forward three years later, i'm glad i've made that change and even i have changed in so many positive ways. although i'm also getting duller by the moment, i'm not complaining.
so here i am nearing the completion of my degree and that got me thinking. i couldnt have done this by myself. the support from family and friends were vital and that brought me to where i am today. they were the ones who showed me light when my path was getting pitch black.
and believe it or not, it was the encouraging words of a friend that actually brought hope to me. she had a best friend who was a top law student and as i listened to that success story, my friend told me that she believed in me and i had my own success story waiting to be written. i smiled at the confidence booster but i secretly and desperately wanted that too. i remember going home that night more determined than ever. that was the time i erased the past and vow to start showing what i was capable of doing.
so i owe half of my success story to steph. i've never told her personally but it was her story and her effervescent personality that kept me believing. i live and die by the story she told me about her best friend and had actually sucked every ounce of it to achieve what i've achieved today. and to see her proud with my accomplishments meant the world to me, the gift she bought for me on tuesday was just icing on the cake. i'm yet to find a conclusion to the story bt that can only be done when i complete my degree and actually find a job i'm happy with.
so i can say that i'm actually a walking testimony that failure isnt the end of everything. cuz when one door closes another opens. failing engineering was the best thing that happened to me. it was the end that lead me to a whole new beginning.

TheGeekWhoTriesToReadAndKnit
my 3 months holiday officially begun two weeks ago and already i'm bored outta my wits. i think i've lazed around my house enough, been to every corner of all the five malls we have here, downloaded every possible movies available online, seriously isnt into clubbing till the wee hours of the morning anymore and actually turned from dog master into dog playmate for the past two weeks. argghhh, the days are getting longer and so are the nights, i'm so bored i dun think there's a cure.
and apparently thx to the previous post, i'm now known as 'THE GEEK' by some of my peers. and that actually gave me an idea... i prolly start engrossing myself with geeky projects and stuff. 8 least that will keep me occupied.
i shall read more novels like all geeks do.
and i did exactly that. well not exactly... i initiated it by borrowing books from friends. heh thx eva and sam...
men in kilts?!?!?! well geeks read kinky love stories too... sometimes! well 8 least this self-proclaimed geek does!
well i certainly hope so... here's to hoping that i finish all three books and also the scarf though...

quadruple eight
"have your IC (identity card) no. given you any luck? you have four eights in it?"
a 4 piece sample instead....
owh well... i guess a free sample of skin care works for me too. so to all the young girls in M'sia, hurry to any kanebo counters near you if your IC number has 3 or more eights in it... who knows, you might even end up wif the lip gloss or eye shadow that i so adore bt didnt get!

five - four - four - seven
this 12 general election marks my maiden election.
this hand did the voting... did yours voted? i've always been interested in politics and being a 'virgin voter' this year, the interest rose to another level. i love seeing how politicians blatantly promise you the entire world just to get your one vote. i love hearing accusations by the opposition of the government's maladministration and then witnessing how the government counter-attack by saying the promises promised by the oppositions are just masquerades. the outcome of the vote is no way near a foregone conclusion and casting one vote will be drawn into the maelstrom of conflicting emotions. a subtle experience awaits as i voted. i went to my polling centre solo as i was separated from my much more experience parents. being totally new at this, i did not know what to expect. my IC was handed over to the volunteer and with my voting serial number, he traced my name on the list. a little bewildered, the guy asked for the pronunciation of my name. i whispered phyllis treating the voting centre like a library. without any warning, the guy piped up my voting serial number, my IC number and my name. standing right in front of the guy and not expecting such an amplified voice, i jumped. a little embarrassed, i swear i heard little giggles from the witnesses afar.
bt i managed in the end and voted for reasons that are personal.
tonight will be interesting... half of the nation will be gluing themselves to the television to know the outcome of this morning's vote.
there will be both tears of joy and sorrow but by tomorrow morning, there will be a new government for us all.

bad hair days arent always bad...
(frm left-right) colour saver whip, sleek wonder straightener, biotouch colour protector rinse... all from wella.
instructions were simple.
apply color protector after towel dry shampooed hair.
leave color protector for 5 minutes before rinsing off.
the once coarse and dry hair felt soft and smooth. the hair was delighted.
sleek wonder applied onto damp hair.
so i guess bad hair days arent always bad... pretty good actually when you come home with three wella hair products as a result.
thx samantha poh!!! my hair owes you one!

dilemma @ 6
don't you just hate it when your fav. programmes are being aired the same freaking time!!!switching channels non-stop because u think u can juggle three channels at once...
resulting to a scrimmage with the remote control...
pfft!!! i seriously didn't think that time-management was needed to watch tv now!

three days...

i dreamt about vero thursday nite...
the dream was surprisingly colourful... i was walking towards vero's house...
it had short white picket fence and a little pond on the far right...
on the way, the understory was heavily covered with wildflowers... and i could smell something baking at the kitchen...
vero and her sister were baking pies and with a lil' wave, they both invited me to join in the fun...
"i would love to join but i have a test later"
i woke up and immediately login in2 facebook and changed my status:-
phyl is still scared of donna and torts...
the test was ok i supposed... gt home and my cousin ting nudged me on msn...she wanted to see the haircut i gt on wed... ting has this thing for short hair... she had jus gotten her locks chopped off and she was jus waitin for me to do the same... i didnt...
sent the pic on the left to her... to trick her... and a few frens... (SORRY VON!!!! wanted to tell ya d truth bt you gt d/c)... i only trimmed my hair... long hair was tied into a bun to present a short hair effect for the pic...
the irony is that... everyone felt for it and said i looked sooo muc better... O.o
some spill the beans saying that i looked way tooo messy with my long hair and it's high time i gt rid of those ugly curls... *sob*sob*
the plan was to have some enjoyment in seeing some of my frens being tricked... instead i gt my ego crushed... -___-
so am now confused... long hair o short hair?!??!!?

my days jus gts weirder and weirder...
a 60 year old distance-learning student joined us for class today... (yesss i haf classes on saturdays tooo... )
according to my lecturer, he's a rich businessman frm miri whos interest in law was the perfect reason for him to continue studying now that he has unlimited spare time on his hands.
he seemed lk a nice man, attentive in class and so much more matured than any one of us monkeys...
class ended about 12 and i headed to the ladies like always...
the door i opened had a sign of woman's profile on it... as i walked in, i realised that the first cubicle was occupied...
i walked pass the first cubicle only to realise that the door was OPENED... and there the person STOOD... right hand occupied... left hand on the hips...
O.o
that was the 60 yr old student peeing... nt only was he in the wrong toilet... he didnt have the courtesy to CLOSE the DOOR...
i walked as silently as i could into the next cubicle and locked myself in there for quite some time...
so basically i was confined to the small space of the cubicle until i was very sure the old man wasnt in the toilet anymore... just u know, to save the poor old man the embarrassment...
my lecturer laughed and said he's old enough to be my grandpa...
wen on flickr to search for a possible pic similar to the scenario... u noe, man in woman's toilet...
found dis pic instead...

LOL...
